NEW YORK CITY MARATHON
GERRY GOSS RUNNING TO RAISE FUNDS FOR WISHAW BASED CHRIS' HOUSE
NEW YORK CITY MARATHON
My name is Gerry Goss, I am the youngest of seven Goss kids, 5 girls, 2 boys. I grew up in Coltness & Pather and attended St Adian’s HS form 1978- 84. I left Scotland in 1986 to see what life was like in the “big, wide world” and moved to London. After spending 6 years in London, I moved to Toronto Canada in 1992. In 1999, I met Shannon, the love of my life. in 2002 I moved from Toronto to the great city of New York. I’ve called NYC home for the last 16 years. Currently am a stay-at-home dad and am actively involved in my kid’s (Jack 13, Callum 9) school as president of the Parent-Teacher Association. On weekends I coach their football teams.
In April of this year I was given the opportunity/challenge to run the New York City marathon. At 51 years old, and my knees & body still willing…I decide it was a challenge I would rise to. Since late June of this year, I have been pounding the sidewalks of New York as part of a 20-week trying program in preparation of pushing my body to run 26.2 miles.
The New york City marathon has been a vehicle for fundraising for as long as I can remember. I thought my foray into running it, should have a fundraising element too. The idea of raising funds and awareness for Chris’s House came from my brother-in-law Garry Lynch. Garry lost his brother, and my life-long friend Jim to suicide in 2013. I’ve been aware of Chris’s House for about two years or so. I don’t think anyone in Wishaw and the surrounding area has been left untouched or unaffected by suicide. Let’s make a difference
